Heyer Thurnheer (CH 1953) is a contextual artist, activist and Philosophy of Freedom sociologist with a multimedia art practice. He is a founder and member of numerous collectives for art, education and exhibition‐platforms in Switzerland and the Netherlands. His works and writings are shown regularely in restrained mode in non‐institutional art spaces and public institutions.

Born in Aarau and after his basic education years in Weinfelden his studies include technical environment and drawing at Metal./BMS Winterthur (1969.1973), visual arts at Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam (1973-1975) and anthropology, social science and strategies of learning by action at Atelier Berzona Institute Locarno (1988-2002).

He lives and works commuting between Locarno CH and Rotterdam NL since 2010.

His installations of objects, texts and video works, often focused on collaboration with the public, are investigations of creative processes in space and time, as well as contextualizations of the art system and contemporary social design issues.
